Hood Students Get Ready for Pub Crawl 2013

Hood College is infamous for their May Madness events during the end of the spring semester every year. However, one of the most popular events during the May Madness weekend is Pub Crawl. Pub Crawl is an event that takes place downtown Frederick for Hood College students over the age of 21 years old. It allows students to go downtown for some alcoholic beverages at discounted prices at some of the bars. So how exactly is Pub Crawl going to work this year?

Senior, Jared Webb, took charge of helping with this year’s Pub Crawl. Webb was in charge of making t-shirts for the event, but what’s the purpose of the shirts? “We have the shirts every year to indicate who is part of the pub crawl to be able to get the discounts at the bars,” says Webb. bushwallers

There are a lot of bars involved to help with this event. Some of these bars include Greene Turtle, Isabella’s, Brewer’s Alley, Bushwallers, and many more. Pub Crawl is a big deal to a lot of these bars. “There’s always a strong turn out,” said Joe Mory, manager of Brewer’s Alley. “Last year, there were about 150 to 180 people.” That’s a lot of people to be serving!

Since Pub Crawl is usually a huge turnout, what kinds of drink specials can students expect this year? Greene Turtle manager, Sbasena “Stacy” Sauter says they already have a few things planned. “We plan on creating a specialty drink just for Hood College students,” says Sauter. In addition to the specialty drink, some of the drink specials Green Turtle will be having include: $2 drafts, $4.50 for Captain Morgan, and $4.99 for domestic pitchers. Sounds like a plan.

So we know the bars are prepared, but what about Hood students? Many of them are ecstatic about Pub Crawl coming up. This is a lot of students first year going. Junior, Tyree Wilson says he’s ready for Pub Crawl. “I expect to see a lot of drunk people and to buy inexpensive drinks.”

Surprisingly, this is a lot of seniors first time going this year for many different reasons. Senior, Ian Richard will be going to Pub Crawl for the first time this year, but doesn’t expect that much. “I just want to get drunk,” says Richard. “It’s not going to make a difference because I can get drunk at home.”

Senior Marquita Monroe could’ve gone last year but chose not to. “I just transferred to Hood College last spring 2012, so I didn't know that many people,” says Monroe. “I think it would have been weird going with people I don't kick it with on a normal basis.”

Unlike Marquita and Ian, senior, Ed Thomas will be going to pub crawl for the second year in a row. Thomas recalls his experience last year. “It was wild as shit,” says Thomas. Since this is Thomas’ last year at hood, he plans on making it a night he’ll never forget. “I might as well go out with a bang since it’s my senior year.”

As you can see, the bars of downtown Frederick and the students of Hood College are ready for Pub Crawl. It’s definitely an exciting event for all. Pub Crawl will definitely be a night of memories.
